This book was mentioned in another book, "For the Joy Set Before Us" by Erica Fye and I am so glad I got it! Chip Ingram has extensive experience with spiritual warfare and is a wealth of knowledge. It was eye-opening, giving real-life examples of spiritual warfare going on in the U.S. and overseas. It also gives reasons why most Western Christians don't seem to experience much in the way of spiritual warfare.It explains the urgency for prayer that is consistent, intense, and strategic and if we'd pray like that, more spiritual battles would be won.The Bible says to put on your spiritual armor, but "The Invisible War" helps explain what each armor piece is, what it does, and it explains how to put it on. I underlined something on every page - that's how good it is! This book is a keeper! It will be a reference tool I will go back to over and over again!

This is a very in depth yet easy to read book. Chip Ingram has a way of really making clear the reality of Spiritual Warfare. As I read this book, I can not help but think and reflect and pray about what I am reading. Already it is full of highlighted passages. He also references Bible passages to back up his words, showing the truth through Biblical principles. This is a very good practical book for anyone who is struggling with oppression, depression, anger, temptations and outside influences.
Really good information. Just really slow read. I had a hard time retaining what was just read. I did this book as a study and they really helped. I found myself reading through multiple times and getting other perspectives really helped.
Our church is going through this in small groups. Rather than buy the cheaper study guide to the video, I bought this book. Chapter 7 is very disappointing - because of its legalistic tone. The author attacks the reader with sin in his life. He then prescribes more Bible reading, memorizing, praying, etc., to gain protection from the enemy. He further prescribes we "make time for God every day" and in the next sentence "this isn't a legalistic requirement." Well, Chip, which is it? A bit later: "once you do ('take the first step'), He'll give you grace." GRACE BASED ON OBEDIENCE IS NOT GRACE! I will finish the book, but at this point I'm very disappointed.
Not a bad book though a bit repetitive. It irritates me when an author feels he must constantly repeat the same paragraphs over and over in each new chapter. It shows that he needs filler. In other words, it trying to fill pages becasue he doesn't have enough original writing to fill the book. He does have some good info in the book, but I couldn't get past being annoyed at the repetition.
Chip Ingram is one of my favorite authors. He is rooted and grounded in the Word and teaches accordingly. I will caution anyone buying this book and really studying it thoroughly. Satan doesn't like us to know who he is and how he works ... you may experience strange occurrences while studying this book.
